In Zittau, you'll find a small but exquisite historic town center with townhouses ranging from Renaissance to Art Nouveau, a remarkable town hall, a monastery complex housing the town museum, the famous Zittau Lenten Veils in the Church of the Holy Cross, the iconic Salt House, and numerous inviting restaurants and shops.

In the neighboring spa town of Jonsdorf, a visit to the open-air theater in the forest is highly recommended in summer. There, a program ranging from open-air theater and music shows to cabaret is offered against a romantic, natural backdrop. A popular highlight for visitors of all ages are the regionally renowned summer theater productions. The annually changing and well-known plays from literature or film are always performed with great passion, excitement, and humor. During a stroll through the sprawling village, a detour to the butterfly house or the adjacent children's play area in the ice rink is also worthwhile. In winter, the whole family can, of course, go ice skating there.

For day trips in the surrounding area, we would also like to suggest the resort town of Waltersdorf, located at the foot of the highest peak in the Zittau Mountains, the Lausche, or the textile village of Großschönau. Großschönau gained renown as a former center of damask weaving and also offers fun and games for the whole family with the Trixi-Bad (Trixi Bath), Trixi-Park, and the adventure climbing forest.

The Zittau Mountains, Germany's smallest low mountain range, offer a wealth of striking rock formations and natural monuments that can be explored on foot, by bicycle, or, in winter, on cross-country ski trails. Just a few examples include the millstone quarries, the Topfer rock formation, and the Nonnenfelsen (Nun's Rock). And those who let their imaginations run wild might discover rock formations like the Brooding Hen, the Chick, the Organ, the Teapot, the Dwarf, the St. Bernard, or the Rhinoceros along their hike. A short hike over the Scharfenstein – with its wonderful views of the Zittau Basin – to the health resort of Lückendorf is also highly recommended.

Those wishing to use our establishment as the end point of a hike can, for example, start by climbing the Töpfer mountain. From there, the trail follows the ridge through the Kleine and Große Felsengasse (Little Rock Lanes) near Lückendorf and past the Muschelsaal (Shell Hall). You then have the choice of reaching your destination via the more strenuous route over the Hochwalde or the more leisurely Weberweg from the Kammloch (Ridge Hole). Our house is also ideal as a starting point for "conquering" the 749-meter-high Hochwald, the second highest mountain in the area. You can choose between an approximately 40-minute walk or a comfortable ride on the mountain express train (in summer). At the top, you'll find a century-old observation tower and a viewing platform on the southern summit. The unique views of the Bohemian Central Uplands with its conical peaks and the foothills of the Zittau Mountains are well worth the climb or ride.

A short walk around the Johannisstein, past the thousand-year-old yew trees in Krompach on the Czech side of our mountains, offers nature lovers a special experience, especially in spring. The Hain forester's lodge, with its location near the ridge, is also ideally suited as a starting and ending point for cycling tours through the Zittau Mountains Nature Park.
