In 1888, a retired border guard opened a wine tavern in the same forest lodge, which was very popular at the time, thus laying the foundation for the later inn. The Zobel family took over the property in 1891 and expanded the house in 1893 to include an elegant salon and a garden for socializing. As an additional service for guests, the innkeeper was the first in town to offer an imperial postal agency with a public telephone.

From 1938 onwards, Kurt Möbius ran the inn, and his daughter Erika Wittig subsequently continued the family business. Since November 2005, Marko Prinke and his family have warmly welcomed guests to the Forsthaus Hain, nestled in the enchanting Zittau Mountains.
